First things first. You don't have to own horses to live here, but you better enjoy being around them, because the Equestrian Center is well-known and there are 60 miles of trails for horses and their riders. Some of these horses have been summering on this island for years and know the trails better than their human companions.

Bray's Island Plantation

This waterfront community is surrounded by more than 20 miles of tidal estuaries, and year-round fishing is plentiful here. (If you've never tried healthy and delicious Spanish mackerel, it's a taste worth cultivating.) Saltwater ponds teem with redfish and flounder, while large-mouth bass flourish in the freshwater ponds. Improve your fishing with the help of licensed guides, and whileyou're at it, take your friends shrimping, crabbing, clam-digging and oyseter gathering. Private boat storage and docks with Broad River access put everything easily witihin reach.

Hunters will delight in the woods and fields that are as beautiful as they are rewarding in the abundance of partridge, quail, deer, turkeys, pheasants and duck. For those who simply enjoy the sport of shooting, facilities offer skeet, trap, five-stand and bunker trap as well as a clay course.

Of course some prefer to chase a little white ball through the fields, and at Brays Island, golf without tee times is an honored tradition. The Ron Gant-designed par 72 layout is filled with natural hazards and incoporates Scottish elements for a truly remarkable golfing experience.

Har Tru tennis courts are lighted for night play and those lights dance off the Pocotaligo River, which flows nearby. Indoor and outdoor pools offer manmade options, and the Fitness Center has a well-furnished exercise room.

This is casual elegance in protected surroundings and although the pool, tennis courts and fitness center hve their advocates, most often, homeowners and their guests are riding the trails on their horses, or fly fishing with world-renowned experts, or perhaps teaching grandchildren the time-honored sport of skeet shooting.
