Neo-Traditional Neighborhoods in the Beaufort SC Area

411_craven_street_beaufort_sc_29902Since the stunning success of Newpoint, on Lady's Island, in the early 1990s, neo-traditional neighborhoods have been all the rage in Beaufort, SC.

Neo-traditional neighborhoods are planned in the style of coastal communities of the early 20th Century, like Beaufort, SC.

The idea of Newpoint was simple -- Create a neighborhood which looked and felt like the Old Point, Beaufort's incredible, historic and sought after downtown area, but with all the modern conveniences expected by late 20th and early 21st buyers. The Old Point is home to houses which date back decades before the American Revolution.

Newpoint is located just across the Intracoastal Waterway from the Old Point, and has a similar feel to its historic namesake.

After the success of Newpoint, other neighborhoods followed -- Broad Street, Battery Point, Habersham, Fuller Street, and Coosaw Point. Interestingly, Habersham is the brainchild of one-half of the development team which created Newpoint. Located on the banks of the Broad River, Habersham has taken neo-traditional planning and architecture to new heights. By far the largest of Beaufort's neo-traditional neighborhoods, Habersham features a bustling town center teaming with shops and restaurants, the idea being that residents can walk to dinner much as downtown Beaufort residents might have done 100 years ago down on Bay Street.

Habersham has nonpareil amenities. The community pool overlooks the Broad River. The community boat dock is at the end of a tranquil gravel road inside the neighborhood which will take you to another place altogether.

Battery Point is one of the true neo-traditional success stories in Beaufort. Begun in the mid 1990s, Battery Point is just about built out. The neighborhood is just minutes from Historic Downtown Beaufort, and has amenities which range from swimming pool, community boat dock, boat launch, tennis court, walking trails and boat storage.

Neighborhoods like Broad Street and Fuller Street enjoy downtown Beaufort locations, neo-traditional planning and architecture, without the amenities found in Habersham and Battery Point.

Coosaw Point is located on the Coosaw River, about 15 minutes from downtown Beaufort. Please don't hesitate to let us  know if you have any questions regarding neo-traditional neighborhoods, or any other aspect of Beaufort's thriving real estate market.
